Recently, the Asian polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) market is generally active. The global novel Coronavirus epidemic continues to spread and cast a shadow on the future demand of PBT and its downstream automotive industry.
Spot PBT prices in Asia held below $1.1 / kg, ACCORDING to ICIS data. A Chinese trader said demand appeared to have weakened in August and September after positive factors in May and June. Some participants attributed the apparent slowdown to a lack of significant improvement in demand following the unwinding of the second quarter. As some economies begin to reinstate blockades, production may start to cool, leading to a contraction in demand.
PBT is used in automotive industry rearview mirror housings, fans, fuse boxes, fairing vents and engine and ignition system components, as well as in electrical and electronic products. Market participants have become more cautious because of uncertainty about the global economic recovery and rising potential threats to demand markets, and have played down the length and intensity of a rebound.
